Féile Chuiltúir Chiarraí

Chuaigh Rang II go dtí Féile Chuiltúir Chiarraí an seachtain seo caite. Second Class were very lucky to be invited to Muckross Traditional Farms to join in the celebrations of Irish Culture and Music.

It was a very educational trip as the boys learned about life in Ireland in the early 1900s.

They saw different tyes of farmhouses and learned about how they used lots of natural materials to build them.

We learned that most people were self sufficient in those days and didn’t run to the supermarket when they ran out of milk!

We saw a cow being milked by hand!

We got to try out some old fashioned techniques. We toasted bread over an open fire and churned our own butter!

We also made some homemade white bread.

It wasn’t all fun and games, there were some jobs to be done too!

Some of the boys got a feel for the days before washing machines!

Nothing was wasted in the old days- they found a use for everything. They used butter boxes for play pins and flour bags to make clothes!

Straw could be wound into a rope.

An old sack could be used as a coat.

Finán had a bit of trouble figuring our how thiscould be done!

We were also entertained with some traditional Irish music and songs.

Before we came home, we had some time to admire all the animals on the farm and especially loved all the baby ones!

Everyone really enjoyed themselves and we would like to thank all of the staff at Muckross Traditional Farms for such a great day.
