This year’s School League like every other year was a great event with lots of very close and competitive games, the 6 captains did themselves proud and set a very good example for the boys in 4th and 5th class.
After a series of group games and semi-finals, it was Tom and Krystian’s teams (Krystian who was a late skipper replacement for the injured Erin Maloney) who managed to reach the final…

Following on from former Mon boy and current footballer of the year James O’Donoghue last year, we had Kerry wing back Johnathan Lyne in to officiate proceedings this year and he did a great job.
Pictured here with the two captains before the game. Johnathan actually captained his team to win the School League when he was here in the Mon.
The first half saw Tom using the breeze to his advantage and establishing a sizeable lead going in at half time. Players from both sides gave it their all during this period and as things stood it looked like Tom would be victorious on the day.

One of a few minor casualties on the day…
The second half really showed that the game is never over until the final whistle as Krystian put in a great performance encouraging and inspiring his troops to pull in Tom’s first half lead.
Daniel Okwute also put in a superb shift all through the final driving his team on at every opportunity and in doing so getting Krystian’s team over the line to take the plaudits and victory!
Mr O’Suilleabháin congratulating and commiserating after the final whistle.

Our 3 award recipients!
Well done to all who participated in a very successful School League. Thanks to all our captains who led from the front and set such a good example to our younger players.
Thanks also to Johnathan Lyne for taking time out to come in and ref the final. Best of luck to him against Cork this weekend in the Munster Final and indeed to other former Mon boys in action, James O’Donoghue, Colm Cooper and Brian Kelly.
